PAS 128 Cat B – Detection

Utilities are detected and located by non-intrusive geophysical methods.

The detection survey is a non-penetrative survey conducted using at least 2 geophysical survey techniques. A consultation with the client during the quotation phase will identify the methodology used to conduct the survey. The final deliverable will be in the form of an AutoCAD and PDF files, with a quality/confidence level assigned to all located services and accompanied by a written report (if Requested) and photographic record (If Requested).

Fundamental to the PAS128 specification is that all Type B detection surveys require a desktop utility search (Type D survey) to be completed before the site visit.

There are various levels/methods of detection surveys. These levels/methods are best described by a brief table:

Category B Surveys can be utilised for the following and more:

  • Borehole/Trial Pit Excavation Surveys
  • Targeted Pipe/Cable/Utility Service Trace/Survey
  • Post Processed Underground Utility Surveys
